Making Baku the centre of district in 1859 and the rapidly developing oil industry conditioned vigorous growth of the city and in short period of time turned Baku into one of the biggest cities of the World.

The architectural styles and methods used during the construction of the buildings were different and the structures in "neo-renaissance", "neo-gothic", "neo-baroque", "classicism", "Empire style, "modem" started to appear in the city. The buildings of pseudo-eastern style, so called "Arabian architecture" were being built and it was attempted to use the elements of national architecture.

In general, when speaking about the architecture of Baku during the capitalism we must note that within short historical period Baku underwent the most explosive periods of the development. In virtue of performance and talents of the architects and builders Baku had obtained original and unique image which eamed it the fame as "Paris of the East'.

For last 10 years the architectural wealth of Baku was replenished with new original buildings. These buildings conform to modern tendencies, but at the same time the carry the veneers attributable to Baku.
